At the B1 level, candidates should have a sufficient range of linguistic resources to express their thoughts using paraphrasing and certain simplifications. They should be able to write clear, concise texts on various topics of interest to them, conveying information relatively precisely and expressing opinions on abstract, concrete, and cultural topics. They can describe experiences, feelings, and events with necessary details, as well as summarize observations relatively freely and justify their point of view in a simple way regarding gathered information about typical and atypical activities and events – primarily within their area of expertise.
Candidates should be able to:
- compose coherent texts that are fully understandable and meet formal genre requirements (see Examination Requirements Standards, types of texts),
- express themselves on topics listed in the thematic inventory (see Examination Requirements Standards, catalog),
- convey intentions defined by the list of linguistic functions and concepts (see Examination Requirements Standards),
- use forms of expression in a neutral register and demonstrate knowledge of formal and informal styles appropriate to the given situation (CEFR, pp. 107–108).
At the B1 level, spelling and punctuation should be sufficiently accurate so that the reader does not encounter significant difficulties in understanding, and candidates' handwriting should be l e g i b l e and conform to Polish standards.

This part of the exam consists of task sets, including three sets of topics (each with two tasks) to choose from. The first task is a short form, such as wishes or greetings, while the second is a longer form, such as a report or a letter.
